The short version

Adaptive holds your training so Training Intelligence can write you a program and so your friends can see what you did. It does not track you, carries no advertising or analytics code, and sells nothing about you to anybody. The only server it sends your data to is ours, and the one outside company that sees any of your writing is Anthropic. Training Intelligence, the part of Adaptive that writes your program and answers your notes, runs on Anthropic's models. If you buy the Training Intelligence subscription, Apple's App Store sells and bills it, and tells us whether it is paid for.

What we collect

Your Apple account identifier and email address. You sign in with Apple. Apple sends us a stable identifier for you and this app, and an email address, which may be one of Apple's private relay addresses. We use the identifier to know whose training is whose. We use the email only to reach you about your account. It is never shown to other people.

The name you choose. Friends see a name you pick. Nothing requires it to be your real name. It is the only name we hold; the name on your phone is never sent to us.

Your training. Sessions, the loads and times you record, your marks, your body weight, and the programs written for you. This is the app.

What you write. The "How are you feeling?" box, the note after a session, your answers during intake, anything you type to Training Intelligence, and comments you leave on other people's training. Some of that describes how your body feels, so we treat it as health information.

Sleep, heart rate variability and resting heart rate, if you connect Apple Health. Read only. We never write anything back to Health, and we ask for nothing beyond those three figures. If you use a Whoop, a Garmin, an Oura ring or an Apple Watch, those reach us the same way: through Health. We have no direct connection to any of them.

A notification token. If you turn notifications on, Apple gives us a token for that device so we know where to send them. It is kept per device, because you might be signed in on a phone and an iPad.

Your subscription, if you buy Training Intelligence. When you buy it or restore it, the app sends us the record of the purchase that Apple signs, and we check Apple's signature before we believe it. Apple's servers also tell ours directly when it renews, lapses, enters a billing grace period or is refunded. From those we keep, against your account: which plan it is; whether it is active, in a grace period, waiting on a payment, expired or refunded; when the current period ends, and when a grace period ends; whether it will renew; whether it is the free month; whether it was bought in the App Store or in Apple's test environment; when Apple signed what we hold; Apple's identifier for the purchase; and an identifier the app gave Apple with the purchase, which is worked out from your Adaptive account so the purchase can be matched to it. If we give somebody Training Intelligence without charge, for testing, the same record says so. We never receive your card, your bank details, your billing address or your name from Apple. Apple keeps those.

That your app knows about the subscription. We note, against your account, that you have used a version of the app that can offer Training Intelligence, and when you first did, so that the subscription is only ever asked of accounts whose app can show it.

The last day you used Adaptive. A date, never a time, and only the most recent one, so we can count how many people use the app each week and how many are still using it a month or two after joining. It is deleted with your account.

What writing your program cost us. For each program we write for you, we keep what it cost, and how many attempts and model calls it took, beside the program request we already keep. It is deleted with your account.

What happens to a Training Intelligence purchase. A history of the purchase's events (a free month starting, turning into a paid one, renewing, ending, being refunded, renewal being turned off, or starting again) and when each happened, filed under Apple's identifier for the purchase and never under your account. Like the subscription record itself, it stays, naming nobody, if you delete your account.

Totals that are not about anyone. When Training Intelligence answers a note, we keep the day and what the answer cost, with nothing that links it to you or to what you wrote, for 90 days. We also keep daily totals for the whole service: how many answers, what they cost, how often the safety check answered instead, and how often the service was too busy to write a program.

We use these records only to work out daily totals and averages across everyone who uses Adaptive, over whole days that have already ended. A figure about fewer than five people, including a rate with fewer than five people on either side of it, or a rate or average drawn from fewer than twenty, is never shown, even to us, and no figure we look at names, describes or singles out a person. A photo, if you choose one. Your avatar is cut down on your phone and stays there. It travels only inside your backup, which we store as bytes we do not open. Nobody else ever sees it.

Where it goes

Your phone. Everything is on your phone first. The app works with no connection.

Our server. Your backup, so a new phone gets your training back. We store it as an opaque archive and do not read it. Separately, your marks are stored in readable columns, because comparing a 5K with a friend is only possible if we can read both. Your friendships, the cards you share, reactions, comments and reports are stored so they can reach the people they are for.

Anthropic. When Training Intelligence writes a program or answers a note, it sends your training profile and what you have written about how it is going to Anthropic's Claude models. That includes the free text above. Anthropic processes it to answer and does not train models on it. This is the one third party that sees your writing, and it is what makes the product work.

Apple. Sign in with Apple, push notifications, and the App Store, which sells and bills Training Intelligence and tells us whether it is paid for. When you buy it, the app gives Apple the identifier worked out from your account, described above, and nothing else about you. Apple's notifications about a purchase are kept here only as Apple's identifier for each one, its kind and when it arrived, linked to nobody, so one Apple sends twice is applied once.

Other people, only where you asked. Friends see the cards you share, your name, your avatar and your marks. They do not see your email, your body weight, what you typed in the feeling box, or anything you wrote to Training Intelligence.

What we do not do

We do not track you across apps or websites. There is no advertising code and no analytics code in the app: the only count of how Adaptive is used is the last-day date and the totals described above, worked out on our own server and seen only as whole-day totals across everyone. We do not sell or rent anything about you. We do not build a profile of you for anybody else.

How long we keep it

Your training stays until you delete it. Your session with us lasts 30 days, after which the app asks Apple who you are again. We keep the 50 most recent shared cards per account and the three most recent backups; older ones are dropped automatically. Your subscription record stays while your account exists, so a new phone finds Training Intelligence where you left it.

Deleting it

Settings, Account, Delete your account. It deletes rather than deactivates: your account, your backups, your marks, your friendships, your cards and anything you wrote on somebody else's card all go, and the deletion cascades in the database rather than being a flag. Your subscription record is cut loose from your account rather than deleted: what is left is Apple's identifier for the purchase, which plan it was, its state and its dates, naming nobody and no longer linked to anything of yours. It is kept because Apple keeps telling us about a purchase after it is made (a refund, a renewal, a cancellation), and throwing that away would let a refunded subscription be switched back on. Only Apple can connect that identifier to a person. Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription itself, because Apple bills it: cancel it first, on your iPhone in Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Export your training first if you want to keep it; there is a row above for that.

The waitlist

If you join the waitlist on Adaptive's website, we keep your email address, the kind of training you picked if you picked one, a short word for the link that brought you to the form (such as instagram, tiktok or site) and when you joined. That is the whole record: no IP address, no browser details, and nothing that links it to an Adaptive account.

To stop scripts filling the list, the server counts how many sign-ups come from each connection, by the IP address the connection comes from. That count is held only in the server's memory, at most until the server restarts. It is never stored in the database or in a log, and never tied to your email address.

The list is kept on our own server, the same one the app uses, and used for one thing: to tell you when Adaptive is available. We never sell it, never share it with anybody, and never add you to anything else. Once we have told everybody on it that Adaptive is out, we delete the list.

To come off the list sooner, write to hello@tryadaptive.app and we will delete your address. Deleting an Adaptive account does not do it, because the waitlist is not linked to an account.

The website is hosted by GitHub Pages, which, like any web host, sees the address your browser connects from.

Security

Everything travels over HTTPS. The app permits no unencrypted connection to anything. Your session token is kept in the device keychain.

Children

Adaptive is not intended for anybody under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app rather than only here.
